Revised standards of Yoga Alliance registration as a registered Yoga Teacher Training or a registered Yoga School

Yoga Alliance announced revised standards in June 2005. These standards take effect for new Rys 200 candidates on January 1 2006, new Rys 500 applicants 1 January 2008. Existing Rys 200 is 1 January 2007 and the existing Rys 500-1 in January 2008 to proceed with the revised standards.

Summary of the Spirit and Yoga Alliance standards changes

The spirit of the changes in Rys standard is a yoga teacher in Rys registry only if it:

* Train teachers below a certain pre-determined curriculum;

* Taught by experienced instructors in direct contact with the teacher-trainees;

* Represents a coherent approach to not only the depth and breadth of topics and approaches.

RYT and Rys changes are:

* RYT 200 independent study ends on 31 December, 2005;

* Additional requirements for Rys teacher educators;

* Rys registration guidelines have been clarified and contact hours increased;

* RYT Sprechstunde training requirements are changed slightly from 1 January 2006.

*Other than changing the requirements, standards changes will not affect existing registered Yoga Teacher Training, currently in training at schools, or end of yoga teacher training in established grace periods. .
